Play overlooking the beautiful Swan River in this natural setting rich with heritage

Birdwood Nature Playground Sunset Heritage Precinct Dalkeith Features: Nature Based Play | BBQs | Picnic Shelter | Toilets | Walk Trail | Swan River Access

Birdwood Nature Playground in the Sunset Heritage Precinct Dalkeith is located in a beautiful natural setting with some of Perth’s best views of the Swan River. The Sunset Heritage Precinct was re-opened to the public in 2016 with the area rich in history dating back to 1904 when this Old Man’s Home first opened. Historical buildings remain in place and under conservation however you can walk around the heritage grounds (which span over 7.9 hectares) and of course enjoy the playground, facilities, walk trail to the Swan River and views here.

In May 2015, a small 1,993sqm parcel of land – less than two per cent – was sold to the Sultan of Johor with the proceeds used to restore essential services. The contribution was used to fund this children’s nature playground.

The playground is nature based with all wooden play features including a large fort access by ladder or cargo net climb, and offering even more amazing views of the river from the top.

The playground is naturally shaded, with lovely shaded offered in the afternoon. Other play features include monkey bars, balancing logs, wooden xylophone, talk tube and birds nest swing.

A partly covered shelter and seating is located near the playground that includes BBQs and toilets are located near the playground too.

During your visit we highly recommend a walk around the Sunset Heritage Precinct grounds. There are lots of plaques filled with history from the area, and there is also a nice walk trail down the Swan River foreshore where there is a grassed area and a small beach where you can enjoy a splash. Dogs can be walked through grounds and down the walk trail on a lead, and can enjoy the dog exercise area at the bottom (including the beach area) off the lead.

A BBQ is also located within the Sunset Heritage Precinct approx 200m from the playground, overlooking the beautiful Swan River. It’s been set up as a little picnic area so you can enjoy a BBQ and the amazing views here. It is so picturesque.

If you are looking for somewhere to not only enjoy a play but a walk and some exploration, Sunset Heritage Precinct Dalkeith is perfect.
