Bodkin Park Waterford Features: Nature Playground | Swings | Seating | Toilets Nearby | No BBQs
Bodkin Park Waterford is quiet suburban park that is part of the Andrew Thompson Conservation Reserve and has a waterway from the Canning River running through the middle of it as well as some nature play features little explorers will love.
The main feature of this park is the nature play, other than a set of swings there isn’t any other traditional play features. The nature play area was upgraded in 2020 and features a couple of bridges, cubby house play, wooden seating, a Bee Hotel and wrought iron creatures. There are also information plaques around the nature play area so you can learn about the native fauna and flora in the area.
There is some natural wooden seating around the nature play area, however there’s not a lot of shade in the middle of the day so it’s a good one for an early morning or late afternoon / evening outing.
Little ones will love finding branches around the place to build their cubby house.
The wrought iron creatures found in the nature space definitely make this space more special. Kids will love saying hello and involving them in nature role playing, perhaps collecting food for them to eat could be a fun activity.
The Bee Hotel was designed by an entomologist and PhD student and has already begun to attract bees (keep in mind bees may be more active in this play space due to the Bee Hotel).
The waterway runs through the nature play space so kids need to be supervised closely in this play area.
A little further up, to the East of the reserve, is a large body of water with lots of bird life and a set of swings. It’s much shadier here and there is also a walkway between this section of the park and the nature play section so bring your scooter along and you can ride / walk in between.
There are no toilets, water fountain or BBQ facilities at the park, however there are toilets at the traditional playground (next to the Curtin University Boat Club) to the west of Bodkin Park. It’s probably at least a 10 min walk or just a short drive back along Fairview Gardens.
If you are looking for somewhere different than your local traditional playground to get your little ones out of the house, or you have a little one who love nature, this is a gorgeous little spot to play, explore and just spend some time amongst nature. Parking is on the street or verge.
