Playground | Picnic Area | Picnic Shelter | BBQs | Water Fountain | Toilets and North & South Mundaring Weir Entry | Kangaroo Sightings
The CY O’Connor Hub Playground Mundaring is located at the South entrance to Mundaring Weir. This beautiful playground and picnic area is in an elevated position and overlooks Mundaring Weir. You also have a good chance of seeing kangaroos at the Rose Garden near the picnic area while you are here too.
The playground is named after the engineer responsible for the construction of the Goldfields Pipeline, CY O’Connor so this pipeline themed playground with nature based play is a fitting tribute to the history of this area.
A picnic shelter and BBQs are located near the playground area, as well as lots of natural shade and grassed areas, perfect for laying out a picnic rug or for kicking a ball around. There is a water fountain located in the picnic area near the playground also.
Just a short stroll away is the O’Connor Lake Lookout and the entrance onto the Mundaring Weir platform. For pram and disabled access you can park at the lower O’Connor Lake Lookout carpark. Toilets are located on the other side of the Mundaring Weir at the South entrance and near the picnic area and main carpark on the North entrance.
Entry is allowed on to the walk way that runs across the top of the Mundaring Weir and it’s free – just check the Water Corporation website for gate closing times and any closures for maintenance. Read more information about the Mundaring Weir south entrance, Campground Picnic Area and Pump Station No.1 tours in our Mundaring Weir Review here.
Back up near the CY O’Connor Hub Playground and picnic area carpark, in the grassed area near the Rose Garden, you can usually see kangaroos. Signage asks people not to feed or touch the kangaroos, but it’s a great spot to sit and watch the kangaroos and see if you can spot any joeys in their Mum’s pouches.
If you don’t want to pack a picnic or have a BBQ the Mundaring Weir Hotel is right across the road from the Mundaring Weir Northern entrance and has a big play area for the kids, regular live entertainment and great food on the menu for the whole family.
CY O’Connor Hub Playground and picnic area is the perfect place to picnic, play, adventure and explore with the family while you are in the Perth hills area.
