The $13.6M redevelopment of the Dampier Foreshore was completed in late December 2019 and transformed this popular Pilbara beach into an amazing recreational facility located in this piece of tropical Pilbara paradise that can be enjoyed day and night. This redevelopment was jointly funded by the City of Karratha, Rio Tinto and Lotterywest.
This recreational foreshore features not one but two huge playgrounds, both with fixed all year round shade and both located close to the waters edge with good access to the beach and full lighting at night time. The first is a pirate themed playground with a boat playground centrepiece.
This playground is probably the better one for younger children with easy access to the boat deck, low level slides plus nature based play, swings and a tunnel to crawl through around the boat playground.
There are also a few in ground trampolines behind the main boat playground too.
The other playground is a more challenging adventure playground. The playground is essentially an elevated ramp that runs parallel with the beach with lots of rope and climbing challenges underneath, some that give an alternate access to the upper ramp.
At the far end of the elevated ramp is a large concrete slide.
The two playgrounds on the Dampier Foreshore are set approx. 50 metres apart and in between them is a large toilet block.
Alongside Hampton Oval is a half basketball court and bike racks. There are also exercise stations along the foreshore.
There is good access to the beach along the length of the foreshore, fixed beach shelters on the beach and BBQs, picnic shelters and seating that overlook this stunning Pilbara beachside location. Water fountains are also found around the playground areas too.
The beach here is calm and suitable for swimming and fishing all year round.
If you are looking for somewhere to eat near by, Soak In Dampier , is just a short stroll or drive away and is open Tuesday – Sunday and offers the most incredible views over the Dampier Archipelago.
