Wireless Hill Park in Ardross, has some of the best views of Perth City and the Swan River, and is a beautiful Perth park to spend the day away.
This is park elevated on the top of Wireless Hill Ardross. Here you can climb one of the two old radio mast anchors – that were used as anchor points for guy wires supporting the 120m high radio mast, built back in 1912. Here you will see the most amazing views of the Swan River and Perth city.
You can also see what the skyline looked like in 1935 before he days of the Perth city sky scrapers.
In January 2017 a nature playground was opened at Wireless Hill Park. The playground perfectly incorporates the telecommunications history and aboriginal culture of the area. You can talk to your friends across the park with these connected speakers. Each has some information about telecommunications history and gives you ideas for messages you can send your friends. This one explains how Wireless Station helped NASA communicated with astronauts and prompts you to pretend you are an astronaut and you are sending a message back to earth.
The nature playground features lots of stepping and balancing logs, sand play features and a bird’s nest swing. It’s located amongst beautiful natural shading and is surrounded by lots of green grass and large trees.
BBQs and picnic tables are located under shady trees alongside the nature playground and there are some good trees for climbing here.
You can also wander around the museum building and read about WA’s communications history. This area is also rich in war history with Wireless Station used for communications during WWI & WWII. Here you can also find the City of Melville’s War Memorial that is illuminated by lighting at night.
There are a couple of nature trails you can enjoy at Wireless Hill Park and we are told the wildflowers are amazing during spring. The nature walks are on sealed pathways so kids can bring along their small bikes or scooters. The trails are approximately 1.5km return and are easily accessed from the carpark near the playground.
Wireless Hill Park is the perfect place to spend the day away with family and friends. There are picnic shelters, lots of grassed area, BBQ’s, toilets and loads of parking. You can enjoy a nature walk (approx 1.5km round walk), climb some trees and take in some history around the museum and war memorial within the park. This park is so serene and is beaming with nature, wildlife, culture and history.
