There’s never been a better time to plan a road trip to Katanning, with the opening of the renewed All Ages Playground. Whether visiting for the weekend, or stopping on your way to Denmark or Albany, kids and adults alike will be entranced by the iconic playground, located about 290km south-east of Perth.
Standing 10 metres tall in the centre of the park is the popular red spiral slide, which is now accompanied by a new 35m long, giant aerial walkway. Catering for children of all ages, and adults young at heart, the park also features seesaws, spinners, rocking horses, swings, fort and tunnels, a climbing net, a 30m flying fox, 2.5 metre rock climb, specialised early childhood play area and nature-based play activities including fallen logs and stepping poles.
For those wanting a little more adventure, there is more to the precinct than just the playground, with a skatepark featuring rails, halfpipes and parkour areas, as well as a vintage truck, historic windmill and Fly Your Flags – a showcase of Katanning’s cultural diversity – in the neighbouring Lion’s Park.
Treat the whole family to a ride on the infamous Steam and Diesel Loco’s at the Miniature Railway , which operates around a 700 metre track every 2 nd and 4 th Sunday of the month. - Visit the largest undercover sheep saleyards in the southern hemisphere, and try the delicious offerings of the Katanning Saleyard’s onsite café.
- Stop in at Lake Ewlyamartup for a picnic or water-based activity, including skiing, sailing, swimming and kayaking.
- Stay overnight at the historic and recently restored Premier Mill Hotel .
- Visit the historic Kobeeyla House , built in 1902 by the Piesse family.
- Explore the heritage and historic landmarks around Katanning’s town centre.
- Discover Katanning’s diverse and historic religious buildings, including the unique Mosque.
- Get a photo for the ‘gram at one of the 15 public art murals .
- Drive FORM’s PUBLIC Silo trail , witnessing a vast outdoor gallery of grain silos, transformer boxes and iconic infrastructure transformed by art.
