The Chem Centre Open Day at shows you how science saves the day in our everyday lives. There are lots of hands on activities throughout the whole centre and you and your family will learn about the role that chemistry plays in keeping the WA community safe. This is a super fun, hands on, educational experience, and it’s completely FREE!
Activities are spread out across all levels of the Chem Centre Building and outside around the building too. While this is a busy event, with so many activities spread out across such a big area, we found plenty of things we could do straight away or only had to line up for a little while for.
My boys are pretty into dress ups so they loved being able to dress up like the police and got to see what it was like to don a full chemical suit and walk through the chemical suit cleaning tunnel that gets all the chemicals off their suits.
There are lots of hands on a activities, exhibits and shows. When you arrive they give you all the information you need can see what time shows are on and plan your visit. We also enjoyed a tour of the Forensics and Environmental Chemistry Labs.
There are lots of learning opportunities with lots of real life science heroes available to share how science is used to solve crimes and keep the community safe.
The highlight of our visit to the Chem Centre Open Day was watching ice-ream be made with dry ice, and getting to have a scoop afterwards. We may or may not have done this 2 or 3 times – the kids loved it!
Make sure you also go and say hello to greyhounds from Greyhounds as Pets in the exhibition area.
The Chem Centre Open Day is one of Perth’s best FREE events, and with lots of activities, exhibits and shows throughout the day you will easily spend at least a couple of hours enjoying this free, fun and educational science experience. With activities and shows to entertain toddlers to teens this is an FREE Perth event not to be missed.
