Perth Christmas Pageant

Christmas Pageant! Find out all about the night when Christmas comes to Perth!

Saturday 3rd December, 2016

Every year, usually in the first week of December, the RAC Christmas Pageant brings the streets of Perth to life with a parade of lights, music, singing, dancing and magical floats! It’s a busy night with thousands of families flocking the inner Perth city streets for the best position right alongside the road to see the stunning Christmas parade.

We didn’t manage to secure a position right alongside the road, you really need to get your spot early and be prepared to wait there and hold it all afternoon if you want a posie right up the front.  We walked towards the beginning of the Pageant route on St Georges Tce around 7pm.

We chose a position out the front of St Georges Cathedral, there is a big grassed area, so my oldest son enjoyed running around before the Pageant began.

We had a good view of the floates and entertainers as they waited to join the parade, but if you sit at the start of the parade, you don’t get the nice flow of floates and entertainers as they are sitting waiting to start.  This is also where a lot of the photos and video recordings are taken so it is lit up with flood lights. However if you do want to make an early get away before the crowds, then we recommend sitting at the start of the Pageant route.

We started to leave after the last float left the start, so we were lucky to beat much of the crowds and get straight back onto the train home.  We did however decided to walk a street back from the crowds to try and avoid having to walk through them, but we ran into a lot of trouble away from the Pageant route (lets just say some less desirable people, behaving in less than desirable ways) – so we recommend you stay to the inner streets of Perth when walking to and from your vehicle or the train station (ie between Barrack & William & Wellington St’s & St Georges Tce).

I have to say, while we were walking back to the train station along the Pageant route along Wellington St, I do think it is worth getting there early and reserving a spot along the main Pageant route.  The atmosphere was electric, you could see the joy in all the faces of the children watching.  If you can get a few of your friends together and have turns keeping watch over your space, it will be worth the wait!

We had a fantastic time last year, and the RAC Christmas Pageant is an event we recommend not to miss. The memories will stay with your kids for a life time. I remember going with my Dad – back when it was held in the daytime!

Where : St Georges Tce

Time: Pre-Pageant Entertainment from 6.30pm. Pageant starts at 7.30pm
