We highly recommend that you visit when the daily flight display and talks are on. These are held daily at 11.30am or 1pm and make your visit to Eagles Heritage Margaret River well worth it. The flight displays include a very interesting talk about the Black Kite birds of prey that includes everything from their amazing abilities to track and spot prey, how these birds can be responsible for the spread of fires and why they do it, to the impacts man can have on this species and things we can do to lessen this impact.

The presenter also throws pieces of food into the air during the talk, even towards the group listening so that the birds swoop down from nowhere right in front of you. Some get so close you can feel the air from their wings move past you.

Of course the coolest thing about the flight displays is having a barn owl sit on your gloved hand. Each member of the group gets to have a turn and of course photos are welcome as the guide provides another informative talk about the barn owl. The owl is quite heavy so a parent may need to help younger children. Below: our son 3 years old with some help from Dad. He absolutely loved the experience.

Before or after the flight display enjoy a wander around the natural bushland to see several birds of prey in averies around the park that feature eagles, hawks, falcons and owls. Remember the birds at this park are being rehabilitated or have been deemed unable to return to the wild, so your entry fee and any other rmoney spent here goes to a very important cause.

There are also a few interactive and educational displays around the park. Here kids can see how they compare to a wedge tail eagles wing span. You should allow 45mins – 1 hour to wander around the park and around 30 mins for the flight display and talk. There is a small kiosk where you can purchase snacks or an icecream and browse the gift shop before you leave.

Eagle Heritage Margaret River presents a fun and educational outing that includes an up close and personal birds of prey experience amongst beautiful natural bushland. Your entry fees and any other money spent here goes towards continuing their amazing rehabilitation work. This is not just an opportunity to enjoy a Margaret River attraction but to support a local organisation that does amazing work to protect and rehabilitate birds of prey. Put this on your list of things to do when you are next holidaying or visiting Margaret River. It’s open daily (except Fridays – closed during the term) 10am – 4.15pm.
