Gloucester Tree Pemberton

Climb the worlds 2nd highest fire lookout tree in Pemberton WA

A trip toPemberton would not be complete without a visit to one of the three climbabletrees in the area. These trees which were once used as fire lookouts nowprovide the adventurous tourist with an amazing 360 degree view over thebeautiful karri forest.

A short drive outof Pemberton is Gloucester Tree, which is the World’s second highest firelookout tree. Gloucester Tree is within a National Park so park passes applyand can be purchased at the entrance gate. See website link with more info below. Gloucester Treeis huge at an impressive 72 meters in height. Metal pegs spiral around thetrunk of the tree allowing visitors to climb up to the lookout cabin – 58meters off the ground.

There is noofficial age restriction to climb the tree but I would suggest it is bestsuited for 10 year olds and up. It requires you to be reasonable fit, and evenif you aren’t afraid of heights it can be quite scary.  And just when you thought you were over theworst by getting to the top, you then have the climbdown, where the only place to look is straight down!

It’s a bit of fun tolet the younger kids (or those who aren’t up to climbing the whole way) toclimb the first few rungs and get a great photo opportunity.

While the tree is themain attraction there are also some bushwalking trails on offer close by,ranging in length from 400 metres to 10 kilometres long. There are also picnictables and toilet facilities located close to the tree.  If you are in Pemberton make sure you visit Gloucester treeand spend some time enjoying the natural beauty of the Karri forest.
