Dogs are allowed on a lead at the Lake Clifton Caravan Park and there is a little play area with a couple of swings in the park.  Word is new owners take over late in April 2015 and there are plans of putting in a pool and doing up the caravan chalets.

There is a shower and toilet block with a large sink that can be used for baby baths, and there are bbqs located within the park too.

lakecliftonpond2

When you enter the Lake Clifton Caravan Park on the right is a gorgeous fish pond with lots of koy fish – you can’t feed them though. There is also a little hut here where you can sit and enjoy your morning coffee, we saw lots of parrots here too.

lakecliftoncampfire

Wanting to give the kids a camping experience we loved the dedicated camp fire area. There ‘s lot of firewood here my three kids loved this as they have never seen a camp fire before and loved toasting their marshmallows (under close supervision of course).

lakecliftonbakery

If your a little hungry and don’t feel like cooking there is LC’s Bakery before you enter the caravan park (3232 Old Coast Road, Lake Clifton) and it offers a wide variety of hot and cold food, cakes, coffee ,newspapers, milk, cold drinks and ice cream.

lakecliftonkayak

We took a 5 minute drive to Island Point Reserve and took out kayaks with us too.  It is shallow water and so great for kids learning to paddle a kayak. It also had toilets and bbqs so you could have a bbq or picnic there too.

lakecliftonthrombites2

On our way back we stopped at Yalgorup National Park on Clifton Downs Rd, to have a look at the thrombolites (thrombolites are living breathing rocks).

lakecliftonwinery2

On the way to the thrombolites you’ll find a the Cape Bouvard Winery & Brewery –  Cellar door sales from 10am – 5pm with a lovely grassed area for kids to run around.

lakecliftondragon2

On our way back from the thrombolites we saw some statue dinosaurs in a man’s yard. He was kind enough to open the gates and let us look but you can see some from the front gate anyway – see keep your eyes peeled for these.

lakecliftonfishing

Lake Clifton is about a 20 minute drive to Preston Beach where we went fishing.  The beach was also divided by big tyres so four wheel drives could access on one side and people in the middle.  This is a lovely beach, great for the kids to play and build sandcastle or go fishing there are also shops on the way to buy bait and essentials if needed.

We had a fantastic weekend getting back to basics (but if you do need it  I did get reception there with Telstra) it was great to give the kids a camping experience but with a few of the of the mod cons like toilets and showers available and to explore the local area and enjoy some kayaking and fishing.

So if you are looking for somewhere to give young kids a camping and nature experience but you aren’t quite ready for the full, no facilities camping, Lake Clifton is a great option.
