The Mokare Reserve Adventure Playground Mandogalup is one of those parks that I breathe a big sigh of relief when I drive up to. I know I’m going to be able to watch all four of my children from the one vantage point. It also caters for all ages, from babies through to adults, so if like me you have children ranging in ages then it’s a good one to add to the list. Located in the new Apsley Estate, it is a short drive off the freeway in Mandogalup (next to Aubin Grove).

The big ticket item at this playground is the 12m tower that has a huge, twisty enclosed plastic slide. Unfortunately for us the slide was closed off by the council on the day we visited. If you head to this park and it’s open, I encourage you to update the comments for us. The tower itself, however, was still a fun climb with a mixture of stairs, ladders and rope sections to challenge all of our gross motor skills .

The rest of the park is lovely as well. There is a very comprehensive monkey bar section, like a ninja warrior type course. My 8 year old loved it and found it suitably challenging, my 4 and 5 year old couldn’t reach parts of it without assistance, but with help they could swing quite well.

There were some great things in this park for younger children. There were three types of swings, including a baby harnessed swing, a traditional swing and a separate bird nest swing. There was a nice slow round-about and also a selection of musical instruments.

The nature aspects and variety of materials in the playground were lovely, and you can see the influence of the collaboration with local artist Jahne Rees. There are big logs for balancing, a stone slide, large steps, and an unusual rope climbing frame.

The fort section was also really enticing, with a rock wall and rope, room underneath for cubby type play and a telescope at the top.

My children spent ages at the water play section. There is certainly something appealing about spinning a wheel and seeing a steady stream of water flowing out.

The overall park design is lovely, with orange and aqua pops of colour interspersed with the natural materials and many different underfoot options such as sand (bring the buckets), rubber softfall, woodchips, concrete and lush grass. The two large BBQ shelters could accommodate some large parties or BBQS, however, as with so many of these newer style parks there are no toilets. BBQs for the surrounding homes only perhaps.

Overall I loved this Mokare Reserve Adventure Playground, I even sat down for 5 minutes and watched all the kids playing, which is really rare. I loved the surrounding bike and scooter paths for really safe active exercise as well.  When the slide opens back up we could easily spend a couple of hours here, but not being local, we’d needed to factor in the lack of toilets and the 10 minute drive to the nearest one. I didn’t spot a coffee shop either, so you’ll need to grab on on the way.
