Muppets Most Wanted – In Cinemas April 10th, 2014
Muppets Most Wanted is the latest of the many Muppets movies and features a very different plot to the last one, The Muppets Movie (staring Amy Adams and Jason Segel).
If you didn’t like the soppy, corny singing in the last one, don’t worry this one still has lots of singing (it’s a Muppets Movie what more would you expect) but there is only one soppy type singing sequence, the rest are quite funny and more sinister.
The beginning of the movie makes you wonder how the plot of what seems to start out to be a typical innocent Muppets movie will turn into a “bad ass” plot that sees the Muppets on the wrong side of the law.
But early on in the movie we are introduced to stage manager Dominic (fabulously played by Ricky Gervais) who uses The Muppets as an elaborate cover for a series of heists together with his #1 criminal partner Constantine (The World’s Most Dangerous Frog) who just happens to be a dead ringer for Kermit (minus the mole).
Meanwhile while Kermit (who is mistaken for Constantine and is hawled off to jail) is being held prisoner at “The Big House” by an likely love interest, Nadia the head prison guard (who is played by Tina Fey who is also fantastic in this role). She has him put his talents to good use as he coaches the prisoners and helps them put on a jail time stage performance of a lifetime.
Ty Burell (Modern Family) is brilliant as Jean Pierre one of officers of the law hot on the trail of the perpetrators and plays half of the hilarious, yet typical “chalk and cheese” cop duo.
And of course it wouldn’t be a Muppet movie without the continuation of the tormented relationship between Kermit & Miss Piggy – there is a Muppet wedding we have been waiting decades for and it’s bigger than royal proportions but will they say “I do” you’ll have to wait to find out.
You’ll love all the celebrity cast and there are heaps of cameos with Lady Gaga, Ray Liota, Celine Dion and Usher making an appearance in the movie just to name a few!
My boys 3 & 7 loved Muppets – Most Wanted, not sure if would hold the interest of younger children, especially girls, it’s more of a crime fighting, action type movie, but with plenty of your typical fun Muppet performances featuring in this movie, and lots of grown up jokes, there is plenty for the whole family to enjoy!
Muppets Most Wanted – 8 /10!
* Recommended for kids 3yrs + * some kissing * lots of action * some low level violence * no scary scenes or characters.
