On this occasion we enjoyed a Hop On Hop Off Tour around Perth.

great value bus tours

After a long day in the city taking in the free school holiday activities we planned to jump on board the Perth Explorer at the end of the day to give the kids a break from all the walking around and let them have some down time. Unfortunately we went a bit over time to get on the Perth Explorer at stop #1 at Barrack Square, but there was no need to worry, I just pulled up the map on my phone and we met up with the bus at a later stop in the centre of the city. We boarded at Stop 3 – The Cultural Centre on Beaufort Street. There is a nice patch of grass right near the stop so the kids enjoyed having a bit of play while we waited for the bus.

You can purchase your?? 24 hour or 48 hour Hop On Hop Off Tour ticket online ? and this saves you a few dollars, or you can just pay the driver when you jump on board. The timetable with all the stop locations and times is available from the website. It was hard to contain the kids excitement when we jumped on board. We had 6 kids in tow from age 6-12 years and they were all equally excited to be on board the top level of a double decker bus. It certainly gives you a different perspective of Perth city and it’s surrounds.

From The Cultural Centre we drove past the Perth Stadium, Crown, the WACA and the Perth Mint before making our way up to Kings Park. You can also combine your Hop On Hop Off Tour with entry and a tour of the Perth Mint or the Swan Bell Tower.

The kids loved waving to everyone and seeing how many waves they could get back. It did get a little chilly half way through so make sure you bring a jumper along, and even a scarf and beanie if you are doing your tour late in the day or during the colder months. It’s also quite windy so it’s a good idea to pop on a bit of chapstick too. If you are lucky you may score a seat right at the front which is a little less exposed to the wind with a protective screen at the front.

Bus tour kids fun

Great Fun Kids Bus Tour in Perth!!

The drive through Kings Park was my favourite part, especially with the wildflowers out, it was just so beautiful. There is commentary all the way along the tour which the grown ups really enjoyed, not sure that the kids heard any of it though, they were to busy trying to score waves! It’s amazing what I didn’t know about our Perth city. This is a great way to explore Perth, you don’t have to sit on the bus the whole way round, you can get off at any of the red Perth Explorer stops along the way then jump back on when it comes back around again. You might want to team your tour up with a play at Burswood Park, a walk amongst the wildflowers in Kings Park or watch a gold pour at the Perth Mint.

Hop on and hop off tours for kids

Coming back into the city it was time for us to hop off, so we could catch the train home. We got off at the Moon and Sixpence on Murray Street, so it was just a short walk to the train station. We missed a couple of stops at the start so for us the tour was around 1 hour. I can honestly say the kids absolutely loved it, they talked about it all the way home and told Dad it was their favourite activity for the day when we got home. If you haven’t seen Perth from a double decker bus yet, whether you are a local or a tourist, we highly recommend you jump on board the Perth Explorer next time you are in the city.
