Perth Zoo Close Encounters give you the opportunity to enjoy a behind the scenes zoo experience and interact with some of Perth’s Zoo’s amazing animals up close. Perth Zoo Close Encounters also make a fantastic gift for the person who has everything.
Perth Zoo Close Encounters range from start from $10, and some can be booked before your visit and others you need to book when you arrive at the Perth Zoo for your visit. On our last visit we experienced the Bush Buddies Close Encounter. This was $10 per person. Children of all ages can enjoy this experience, kids under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
For our Bush Buddies Close Encounter we went into a fenced off area where only the Perth Zoo staff are allowed. During our Bush Buddies Close Encounter we met and learned all about the quokka and rock wallaby, and got to give them something to eat, and give them a pat to feel how different their fur is.
Next we met a less furry Bush Buddie, the Bob Tail Lizard. We got to feel how scaly he was, and we learned that the end of his tail is a similar shape to his head so that predators think his tail is his head and he is able to get away.
Lastly our Perth Zoo Close Encounters guide Rob introduced us to the very spiky echidna. We couldn’t see her at first as she was buried beneath lots of sand, but Rob got her our to say hello to us and teach us lots of things about the echidna.
Our tour was about 20 mins long, and the kids thoroughly enjoyed the special experience of going behind the scenes and getting to learn and touch these amazing Bush Buddies.
You can find a full list of Perth Zoo Close Encounters at www.perthzoo.gov.au , they start from $10 for a Giraffe Eye to Eye Close Encounter (4yrs+), which after an extended period was not available due to maintenance in the area is now available again to enjoy.
