Rottnest Island Campground

Enjoy and affordable getaway at the Rottnest Island Campground

Rottnest Island Campground Features: Non Powered Tent Sites | Toilets & Shower Block | Camp Kitchen | BBQs | Close to Football Oval & Basketball / Tennis Courts | Bike Racks | Max 6 People & Two Tents Per Site

Camping at the Rottnest Island Campground can be a great alternative to cabin or hotel accommodation for a more affordable and back to basics getaway or holiday to Rottnest. It’s also the perfect accommodation solution should all other accommodation be booked out. We were able to book a site last minute for the October School holidays and there were plenty of vacant sites during our stay too.

Unlike some other campgrounds you pay just one site fee, there is no extra to pay for additional persons. There is a maximum of 6 persons, and two tents or four swags per site. At $39 per site per night (check website for up to date pricing, link below), camping at Rottnest Island is super affordable.

The Rottnest Island Campground has 43 non powered sites, ablution block with toilets and showers and a camp kitchen with 4 BBQ plates and troughs and power outlets (no appliances).

The camp kitchen is a popular place to charge phones and other appliances. There are plenty of power points however they are in hot demand and many brought along a power board so they could charge all devices from the one power point.

The ablution block is basic, however it was clean and functional with plenty of toilets and showers. The water in the shower is a set temperature which was a nice warm to hot setting.

There are plenty of bike racks at the Rottnest Campground so you can park your bikes close to your campsite. You can also find a couple of free standing BBQs within the campground if you want to cook away from the the camp kitchen.

Multiple basketball and tennis courts are located alongside the Rottnest Island Campground.

And there’s a footy oval at the front across from the campground luggage pickup / drop off area.

Pinky’s Beach Club is just a short stroll from the campgrounds towards Pinky’s Beach if you fancy somewhere a bit flash to enjoy a meal and a drink while you are camping.

The Rottnest Island Campgrounds are well located within a short ride to The Settlement, The Basin, Thomson Bay, Gordie Bay and just a short stroll to the beach (Pinky’s Beach is the closest).

Some sites are better than others however you can’t choose your tent site, you just have to take what you are given. In saying that however all sites are well set up and located so you can’t really go wrong. There are several picnic tables, however there is not one per camp site so you may like to bring your own table and chairs along. Remember to keep your tents zipped up at all times. The quokkas are very keen to find food and will most likely get into your tent looking for food if they can.

Check in time at the Rottnest Campground is 10am, however even if you catch the early ferry over it still takes a few hours for your things to be delivered to the luggage drop off / pick up area so you may not be able to set up your camp until closer to midday. Your luggage items must be at the drop off / pick up area by 9am the morning of the day you are leaving the island (unless an earlier pick up time has been arranged with the Visitors Centre 24 hours or more before departure).

We totally rate camping at Rottnest Island. It’s not that difficult with all luggage delivered to and picked up from the campsite and additional luggage tags available for just $2 per item (this cost may vary between ferry operators). It’s a more affordable way to enjoy a Rottnest Island getaway and can be a last minute option where all other accommodation is booked out.
