Firstly it’s important to note that Serpentine National Park is very popular on weekends and public holidays, particularly on a sunny day and they often close the gates early if the park reaches capacity. If you plan to visit, it’s advised you get there early (before 10am) to ensure you get access to the National Park. Gates are usually open 8.30am – 5pm (National Park entry fees apply).

Most people visit Serpentine National Park to see (or swim in the warmer months) at the Serpentine Falls. The falls are located only a short walk (under 1km return) from the carpark. The walk trail is a sealed walk path right to the water’s edge and there are steps and a handrail down into the water. We visited in winter so the water was freezing, but we can’t wait to return in Summer for a swim here.

While there are other things to do and explore at Serpentine National Park, a visit to the Serpentine Falls alone makes it worth the visit. It is absolutely beautiful.

There are several walk trails around Serpentine National Park, including the popular Kitty’s Gorge Walk which is approximately 7km long and ends in the Jarrahdale Town Centre. We walked along the pipeline bridge,

Up the incline and along the stream that feeds the falls.

We found this lovely spot to have a snack and a drink while the kids splashed around with the water and played with the rocks for ages.

There are several trails around the Serpentine National Park. The one we went up was not pram friendly, however there are other trails that start at the carpark that gently incline up towards the top of the falls that are pram friendly.

You’ll need to bring along your own food and drinks to either picnic or BBQ. There are no food or drink outlets within the park, however there was an ice cream van there when we visited on a busy public holiday. The grassy and shady picnic area is located near the main carpark and only a short stroll from the Serpentine Falls. Toilets are located within the park. When we visited there were temporary toilets and a new toilet block was under construction.

Serpentine National Park is the perfect destination to take a drive out of town and enjoy some fresh air as a family. Relax with a picnic and same games on the grass or get active and explore the falls and all the walk trails. Get there early to have your best chance for entry, check the DPAW website for any closures, including protentional closure of the falls for swimming due to water quality.
