Shipwreck Park Golden Bay Features: Slide Tower | Scooter Track | Bike Pump Track | Toilets | BBQ’s | Beach Access | Shelters | Picnic Benches
Shipwreck Cove Golden Bay is already a local favourite. With the pump track, slide tower and beach access, it’s sure to be the perfect spot to catch up with family and friends especially in summer. Before you even arrive at shipwreckcove if travelling along Marillana Drive (north end) you may be able to spot a flag (the top of the slide tower) from over the dunes, this can be an exciting marker for kids that you have arrived.
When you enter the first things kids will notice is either the slide tower or the pump track depending on age and what they like.
There is a small flat scooter/bike track for young kids with the big pump track next to it. It seems a lot of confident little ones go on there so don’t be scared as it seems the older kids are very careful around them and considerate.
Not too far off is a gated play area for smaller kids (and runaways), so Mum can easily watch the youngest in this play area while kids are on the smaller flat track or the pump track.
The gated play area has two mini boats for toddlers to play pirate on, there is a slide structure, and a spider climbing net. There is also a barrel in the middle with an anchor on the side for both imagination play and theme. This area is also set in sand so don’t forget the kids bucket and spade so they can build sand castles.
The main play area is shaped like a ship split in half with the slide tower (crows nest) in the middle of both pieces. There are cement wave sculptures with tunnels (wave barrels), and a hill designed to look like a cliff with swings on top.
There is also a big grassed area running the length of the play areas, this space is perfect for running around kicking a ball around or sitting and having a picnic.
The park has 3 car park locations, 2 when entering from the south and 1 at the north end of the park. It offers 2 2 burner barbecues, multiple benches with seating all under cover. Toilet block (was unable to see if baby change tables were available as they were under maintenance when we visited), beach access near the toilets and car park near the scooter track, beach look out tower, rinse off shower near scooter track beach access. From what we could see there was no drink fountain, so remember to bring a drink bottle just in case.
Shipwreck Cove Golden Bay is worth an adventurous drive to check out and experience a new park, even if your kids are too big for the playground. The park is designed for all ages and to grow up with the kids, I can see all types of people enjoying the place from the playgrounds to the pump track to the beach.
