You can find the Shipwreck Galleries just across from the Esplanade Park – which is only a short walk from the Fremantle Train Station.  A the front of the Shipwreck Galleries as you enter are some large anchors. The kids loved climbing all over these before we went in. Inside you will find lots of shipwreck relics, including original timbers from the Batavia, which was wrecked in 1629.

There are lots of displays of small shipwreck relics like these coins

The favourite was definitely the dress up pirate treasure chest located up stairs.  They’ll love dressing up like a pirate and having a photo with the cannon

Back downstairs we enjoyed seeing lots of model replicas including the replica of the Duyfken, makes it’s way around Perth for regular on board tours.

Another favourite exhibit was trying to lift this cannon ball that was contained within the box – it’s one heavy little ball so mind your fingers!

We spent about an hour wondering around, but we did rush off as we had some other things to check out while we were in Fremantle, so we recommend you allocated between 1-2 hours to spend here. The Shipwreck Galleries are open daily, 9.30-5pm (closed some public holidays)

Accessibility : The upper level is accessible by stairs.  There is a lift, but it wasn’t working when we were there, so if you need to use the lift perhaps call before you go to ensure it’s in service.
