A family holiday to Singapore isn’t complete without spending the day at Universal Studios Singapore on Sentosa Island. There is something for the whole family to enjoy with family friendly rides , thrill seeker rides, family shows and street entertainment. Getting to Sentosa is easy, you can choose from a taxi, MRT (train), monorail or cable car. We caught a taxi to Sentosa a few times from Marina Bay and it was only around 15-20mins and $8 each way.

If you are really keen to hit as many rides as possible we highly recommend budgeting for an Express (Skip The Queues) Unlimited Pass. We visited Universal Studios over the Easter holidays and line waits were up to an hour when we first arrived. You can purchase an Express Unlimited Pass when you book your ticket online or when you purchase tickets at the gate, but we recommend you wait until you are inside, check out the line times and if lines are long head to the Customer Service Desk just inside the entrance to purchase your Express Unlimited Pass (S$50 per person). We did just this, and think that the Express Unlimited Pass was well worth the additional cost especially during peak times. Had we not had it we would have only managed to get on a few rides and seen a show or two for the whole day – of which most would have been spent sweating it out waiting in line. With the Express Unlimited Pass we went on heaps of rides and even had a go on our favourites a few times each.

First up we skipped the 45min waiting line for the Madagascar ride and went straight to the front of the line with our Express Unlimited Pass. This is a good one for the whole family to enjoy as you ride a boat through the Madagascar scenes, complete with all the characters and sound effects.

For younger thrill seekers take a ride on the Puss n’ Boots Giant Journey Rollercoaster with a difference. A large basket hangs from underneath the rollercoaster rail and takes you on a wild ride around the giant beanstalk in search of the golden eggs. Must be 100cm+ for this ride.

For a bit of a break from the rides we again jumped the queue and got first in line to enter for the Donkey Live Show. Donkey is at his best on the big screen in this interactive show where he talks with audience members and gets them all up and moving. The show will leave you scratching your head as to how Donkey knew the names of people in the audience, it’s very cool and lots of fun for the whole family.

Singapore is typically low 30’s and humid everyday, it doesn’t change much. There aren’t any water attractions at Universal Studios Singapore, you may get a little wet on some of the attractions though. We did however find this little water play feature outside The Lost World zone, which was also alongside the Discovery Food Court, so this is where we decided to stop for something to eat and let the kids cool off.

There are lots of Meet & Greets and street entertainment as you wander round the 7 zones (Madagascar, Far Far Away, The Lost World, Ancient Egypt, New York, Hollywood & Sci Fi City). Grab a showtimes & meet & greet schedule when you enter to plan your day. We just missed this Meet & Greet with Optimus Prime.

There is certainly lots for thrill seekers, like the Battle Star Galatica roller coaster found in Sci-Fi City (if you love a good rollercoaster give this one a go), my husband also loved the 3D Transformers ride here too.

There is so much to see and do in a family day out at Universal Studios Singapore. It’s located on Sentosa Island so you can get a pass out if you want to enjoy some other attractions and come back in. If you are ride mad, check the wait lines and if there are long waits, grab yourself the Express Unlimited Pass so you can skip the queues and ride all day and night long. Even if you are not keen on rides, Universal Studios is a great day out with heaps of shows, entertainment and meets & greets with characters to enjoy.
