Open Wednesdays 10.30-4pm & 2nd & 4th Sundays 2-4pm
The WA Medical Museum, located in Subiaco within the King Edward Memorial Hospital, takes you through medical history dating back to the 1900’s. It’s a hands on, educational experience, so it’s also a great activity for home schooled kids or to give your kids an educational outing.
Mydaughter was quite interested and ask the lady lots of questions. One ofthe ladies there used to be a nurse and was very happy toshow us around and talk to us about the history of medicine
We learned about the iron lung and how it kept a patient breathing -the machine can be turned on by assistant from staff, but be prepared its very noisy.
We also got to check our hearts on a heart rate monitor tosee if we still had one lol, again one of the staff can help you with this and we also learned about xrays and how we see babies in Mum’s belly.
And had a look around and learned about how Coolgardie hadtents for hospitals
This one really intrigued my daughter to asked loads ofquestions, it was all about aboriginals and their bush medicine it was great tosee how some cultures tried different medicine
This one was my sons 5 year old favorite, we learned if something happened and we were not near a hospital you would have to use a Royal Flying Doctor helicopter to transport you to Perth.
After our visit we also decided to head to Kings Park and we had a beautifulday there, but you can also head over to the Subiaco Theatre Gardens playground this is behind the museum just one street away.
Cost: $4 adults, $1 kids (you may need to pay for parking depending on where you park)
