The Wellington Square (Moort-ak Waadiny) $17.5 million upgrade was completed in March 2021 and has given Perth city an exciting inner intergenerational park with something for all ages, young and old!
The centrepiece is a huge climbing tower with two tall enclosed slides and a few enclosed pods (designed on the Candle Banksia) with various rope and climbing challenges for the little bit adventurous right up to the super adventurous. The shade design over the playground doesn’t provide full shade however it seems to have been designed to provide a mixture of sun and shade so it can be left in place all year round.
For the littler ones there is a separate adventure play area that features all the thrills of the larger play area but just on a lower scale, with slides, climbing pods (also banksia themed), rope challenges and climbing blocks. There are also a series of swings including an all abilities swing and an all abilities spinning carousel.
The water play is another section that the little ones will love, with a range of blocks, creeks, little gates to move the water that comes from the small banksia sprays around.
Alongside the main playground are two in ground trampolines and a two cable flying fox, one with an all abilities seat, also.
You definitely should bring the scooters and small bikes along to this park, with a bike track alongside the main playground and a shared pathway around the whole Wellington Square Park.
Wellington Square is definitely for the lovers of sports and activity too with two large basketball courts (one with netball ring too), parkour equipment underneath the main playground, a large football oval complete with goals at each end and exercise stations at various locations around the large Wellington Square Park.
As far as facilities there is everything you need with toilets, BBQs, water fountains and seating located throughout both the playground and park area. If you want to sit away from the busyness of the playground there are plenty of quieter areas around the park to sit too.
Parking bays are located street side along each side of Wellington Square Park. Parking is 2-3 hours and tickets are required 8am – 6pm Monday to Friday. You can also catch the free Yellow Cat bus to Wellington Square.
Wellington Square ( Moort-ak Waadiny) Playground & Park is truly incredible inner city space for everyone of every age and every ability to come and play or relax all year round.
