Scarborough Beach Pool is a geothermally heated, salt water chlorinated outdoor lap & leisure pool that is located right on Scarborough Beach and is surrounded by a variety of cafes, restaurants & bars.
For those with young children, you will love the leisure pool. It has beach entry with a few little water spouts and extends to just 0.9m deep. The pool is heated to a slightly warmer temperature than the lane pool and is located right alongside the Cocolate cafe and seating area. The warmer water makes the pool perfect for a late evening swim, or a swim on a not so warm day, followed by something to eat at the cafe or other surrounding restaurants.
If you are wanting to swim some laps, there are 8 x 50m lanes and 4 x 25m lanes. A couple of lanes are designated for leisure swimming depending on the time of day and demand). The larger pool ranges from 1.2 – 2.2m in depth and is geothermally heated to 27 degrees all year round. Entry to the lap pool is via the ramp or various step entries.
At the southern end of the main lap pool is a grassed area with a couple of large trees that provide lots of shade. Fitness classes are held here (fees apply) for those who are interested in group fitness classes or personal training sessions.
And if you want to lounge by the pool there are several sun loungers on the west side of the pool closer to the beach near the 25m lanes. Permanent umbrellas are in place and you may like to turn your lounge around to get an ocean view or to watch the sunset.
The venue, pool and amenities are all universally accessible with a steps or lift entry to the venue, ramp/beach entry to both pools and a ceiling hoist in the change rooms. Male, female and unisex toilets, showers and changing facilities are available as well as outdoor showers. Lockers are available to store your valuables (fees apply).
If you feel like grabbing something to eat while you are enjoying your swim at Scarborough Beach Pool you can access Cocolate from inside the pool area, and enjoy your food or drink in the dining area just outside the cafe or of course grab you coffee to enjoy wherever you are seated around the pool. They are open during pool hours and a little after the pool closes (see website for opening times below). Cocolate can also be accessed from outside the pool, you don’t have to enter the pool to enjoy a coffee or a meal here and the views over Scarborough Beach are just beautiful.
You can purchase coffee, drinks, ice-creams, all day breakfast, light meals, lunch or dinner from Cocolat so you can grab something to go or combine a nice meal with your swim. The La Capannina Italian Restaurant is due to open March 2018. Along the Esplanade you can also enjoy something to eat from The Wild Fig, Grilld Burgers, Zambrero, The Local Shack, The Sandbar, Cold Rock, Peters By The Sea, The Lookout Bar, Scarborough Rendezvous and more.
Scarborough Beach Pool is open daily and is open until later at night in summer (see opening hours on website, link below) and is heated so you can enjoy a swim all day long. Free parking is available near the pool. While construction is underway expect a bit of a walk from the main southern car park to the pool until the access walkways are completed. Come for an early morning swim and breakfast or enjoy an evening swim and dinner down on the Scarborough Foreshore. There is still a lot of construction underway at Scarborough Beach but with the pool now open there is plenty to enjoy.
