Maylands Waterland Features: Free Entry | Playground | Zero Depth Splash Pads & Wading Pool (seasonal) | Picnic Tables | BBQs | Toilets | Drinking Fountain | Change & Baby Change Facilities
The Maylands Waterland Stage 1 $4.4M redevelopment was completed in June 2022 It re-opened with new playground and picnic facilities, zero depth splash areas and a wading pool (water features run seasonally). Stage 2 that includes a shallow 60cm pool is yet to be funded.
Inspiration for for the design include local elders and was facilitated by renowned landscape architect Josh Byrne & Associates, who have also designed several other Perth playgrounds.
There are two seperate playground areas and both are located under good natural shade and have nature based play features. The playground located at the lower end overlooking the wetlands has several climbing features that include a low level rock climbing wall, a tunnel kids can climb over or swing through, climbing frame and basket swing. The giant wooden spider that you can climb all over is another pretty cool feature of this play area (if it doesn’t completely freak you out that is).
The second playground is aimed at younger children with a wooden fort, slide and balancing logs.
Alongside this playground is a large elevated deck, where you can sit and enjoy the sunshine or get a birds eye view of the Pennisula and Maylands Waterland.
There are also of creatures and little critters to discover at Maylands Waterland. See how many you can spot.
Make sure you look up too.
The water play features include a couple of zero depth splash areas. The one close to the smaller playground features a waterfall and large motorbike frog sculpture.
There is a larger zero depth splash area alongside the lower playground also.
The shallow pool has been maintained and has been given more of a wetland feel with reed sprays, fake rocks and frogs located around the edge.
It’s wonderful to see that the iconic mosaic 150 year Western Australia Anniversay Swan from the original larger pool has been maintained and relcoated to the outdoor shower area.
Maylands Waterland has plenty of toilet with change facilities, BBQs, picnic tables, water fountain and shady grassy areas to set yourself up for the day. There is a large covered picnic shelter, perfect for sheltering on a rainy or hot day.
Entry to Maylands Waterland was free at the time of this review. We will update your on entry fees when the water is turned on in Spring. There was also no cafe or food facilities at the time of this review, however there are plans to have food trucks here and we will let you know if there are any updates on a permanent cafe or kiosk here in the future.
